I had the opportunity to sit through another great Drew Davis presentation at the Niche Digital Conference this week. I don’t know how Drew finds the time to test and review online technology like he does, but he found a couple places I wasn’t aware of for building your personal brand online. Here they are.
About.me
I caught onto About.me about six months ago (here is my profile) and now use it when people want to find out everything about me, both to my personal and business ventures. It includes my business sites and the majority of my social media identities.
It’s also a page that can be found in Google, so I like the option of creating another content asset to direct people to my social media sites. And, for those people looking for a job, it’s a good resume landing page.
Two other services that are pretty similar that you may want to look into include:
As Drew said so well in his presentation, the best advice is to pick the technologies or platforms that make sense for you and your business, and put your effort into one. My advice would be the same. Whether it’s About.me, Flavors.me or Zerply, choose one to invest your time, and direct people to that site. I like About.me because it seems to be getting the most traction, but any one of these will do.
You may also just want to invest in your own web page (here’s my JoePulizzi.com site) or even focus on your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn page. Whatever you decide, the moral of the story is to make sure that what you want represented online is actually being done (does your mirror image look right online?).
If you have any other sites out there that do similar things, please pass them on in the comments below.

Oh,
thanks for this. I had no clue they existed. However, Facebook page, Twitter account, LinkedIn profile, blog, webpage, About.me … In the end, how many is too many in sense of keeping control of and monitoring all the pages one has for himself and business?
Joe,
I don’t know where I find the time to find this stuff either.
Thanks for the shout out and I like the recommendations you’ve made.
There are a lot of these copy cat kind of ‘business card’ sites out there these days. One of the things I look for when I’m trying to choose a front runner is the integration points with partners.
About.me has partnered with Moo.com to help you print business cards with QR codes that take users to your about.me page on their phone or ipad. While this is pretty cool, the mobile format for About.me isn’t the greatest. I’m hoping this starts to change. Anyway, I thought I’d add that tidbit to your great post.
If you’re looking for more info on the about.me and moo.com partnership here’s an article about it.

I use Flavors.me and point it to a url bretsimmons.me I used to have my personal branding students create about.me pages, and not all of them liked it. This semester I switched and have them use Google+ as the site where they aggregate their brand and they seem to really like it.
Thanx for the tips on those great sites.
I wanted to mention a website I recently discovered (through a Facebook ad) that helps you design your own website. You can either use one of their templates (which boasts the WIX logo) or for $300 they’ll customize one for you (with no WIX logo). I tooled around on their site http://www.wix.com and am looking forward to creating my own site! (and no…I don’t work for them…I was just so impressed at how snazzy they looked and how inexpensive it would be to create a custom one..IDEAL FOR SMALL businesses!)
Thanx again for awesome tips!
Thanks for the Fyi re: About.me and Zerply. We’re using Flavors as a social media newsroom (SMNR). I created flavors.me/copyclique/ just last weekend.
I haven’t yet explored / optimized their directory there, but hope it’s helpful for discovery and connecting with others. I like Flavors a lot. Very pleased with how easy it was to customize.
Thanks very useful information.
