The Problem with Content Marketing [infographic]

Content marketing today is an amazing opportunity for small and large businesses because the barriers to entry that once existed (technology, talent, databases and content acceptance) are now gone.

Unfortunately, now that all of us are doing content marketing, we are seeing a lot more, let’s say, bad content…cluttering up our email, social streams, mail boxes and more. It will only get worse before it gets better.

Our friends at Alinean (a CMI Benefactor) developed this fantastic infographic using some of our content marketing research on both the opportunity, and problems / challenges that exist with content marketing today.

Someday, content marketing in organizations will become a standard skill…but until then, we have some worth to do.

It’s worth the look.  Pass it on.

So would you say that with the amount of bad content out there, there would be something incorporated in the search engine’s algorithm that would determine good content? I mean, what if someone who does have something insightful to share, but doesn’t have the Google-defined authority to reinforce the information? Maybe social media will play a more powerful role to determine good content.

Hi Jessica…even though Google tries to determine the best content, at the end of the day, our customers determine it by coming back to us on a consistent basis and buying from us because of the great content we produce. I think there are all kinds of indicators of good content – including those that share it…but if we don’t have credibility yet we need to do a lot of things, including getting involved in our niche community, to be found.

This is a great infographic that truly paints the picture of how a customer makes a buying decision today. The idea behind “Frugalnomics” demonstrates that a customer will only buy when they are ready, able, and have done their research. That’s why we believe that Inbound Marketing is so important. Providing relevant information at these customers’ fingertips is the best way to ensure who they will choose when their “frugalnomic” selves decide to buy. We compiled a list of ways to capture customers through inbound marketing, found here: http://www.grmwebsite.com/inbound-marketing/ Enjoy!
