I think this year’s surge in e-books and e-readers will encourage us to re-imagine what books can be. So far, it has been a mostly passive, one-media experience. I hope we’ll see more multi-media integration, with books that include video clips, music and all sorts of creative combinations. Or books you can personalize. Endless possibilities.

I think we’ll see growth in online content marketing as ex-journalists get hired on at various agency and publishing outfits, as well as an increase in branded entertainment.

I think that Facebook and Google will face-off (no pun intended)…with Facebook’s new SMS service and their emphasis on business and commerce, it will be inevitable. E-commerce will especially benefit and the the traditional bricks and mortar retail will be negatively impacted more so than at present.

I believe that brands and companies will understand the power of Content Marketing Strategies. And Content Curation will be the main strategy in their content marketing strategy.

Without a doubt and bias aside – this forecast is purely logic-driven – the one thing that will separate winners in business from the rest of the pack is attaching a firm focus on engagement to marketing strategies.

We know today that our customers want more. They are in control of the content, they set the rules. But by aligning ourselves more closely to their needs, by being there for them, we can steal a march in pursuit of success altitude to reach even higher than the fairy on your office Christmas tree.

The best way of being there is in person. Given that most of us operate globally, electronically, the alternative is through the use of rich media. Videos, podcasts – and blogcasting, if you’re particularly exceptional and like to work wonders with a coherent and multi-channel strategy in place.

Podcasting is really only five years old. Look at the average five-year-old – lucid, yes, but with incredible potential.

Beethoven first showed the world what he could do when he went on tour aged six. I think we have another miracle of marketing ready to show us all what it can do – and like the great muso, change the game.
